The Empty Page - Imploding

Album review...

Alt-Punk

Review and Pix By: Paul Warbrick

When you've known & followed a band for most of their time on the music scene (back to those early years playing in pubs under a different name )

you sometimes have to wait for a full length album release.

That's the case here with The Empty Page, a totally independent, DIY  band from Manchester.

4 years of waiting is now over as IMPLODING is finally released.

This is only the 2nd full length release &  is sure to implode your mind.

The 2nd track,  'Cock of the Fifth Year' is probably the most commercial song so far, it even got played on Radio One . It's a song about Johnny that doesn't give people space and quote lyrics "he's a wanker in a parker".

This is followed by 'Life is a Wave' , a song about loss & grief, regret & pain and being philosophical about it . The wave is in relation to the green waves on hospital machine .

This is one of several songs that I can personally relate to.

Leaf Thin , is about living everyday with anxiety & depression while trying to put on a mask of  ' normality ' .

If you know the band well (which do) you will know Kel writes a lot about her struggle with mental health. Well  'Medication National' is a little different and about how pretty much everyone we know seems to be in  a snotty, anxious depressed hot mess.

It's not all gloom & doom however, as  'Gorge ( oh well )', one of the oldest tracks on the album, the band been getting to record  song since 2019 it emerges into a grungy punk tune towards end .

Level Sedentary is probably one everyone can relate to -  a song about not wanting to get out of bed and face the world .

This is followed by  ' What Happens Now '  about reflecting on your life when you get to a certain point .

For this album Kel & GIZ are joined on drums by John Simm  for most tracks.  While on tracks 1 and 7 plus  the 3 CD bonus

tracks Jim Cattell  is drummer.

The 3 bonus tracks are  'Your Tame', 'He's very good at Swimming' and 'When The Cloud Explodes'.

If you seen band live, these are usually in set.

The Empty Page have been championed by the BBC Radio Introducing  team  and have put a lot of hard work into getting this released.

The official launch date being 10th May 2024.

The album is also available on  'Splatter'  vinyl, however these are limited editions.

So what happens now, well one urges you to purchase a copy of the album therefore supporting a truly independent band, one thing have done.
